Whenever a tragic disaster strikes, I am always more affected by animal stories. It’s a little disloyal to my fellow humans, but I think animals have it worse, because they don’t receive the same level of care and concern as people do. As witnessed after Hurricane Katrina, they’re left in homes as their owners are rescued. While I don’t agree with it, I understand why it is that way. But it makes me so much sadder for it. Nothing will make me tear up faster than video of an abandoned animal on a rooftop. 

I have two dogs and a cat, and I would be beside myself if I had to leave them behind in danger. I understand the people who refuse rescue because they aren’t allowed to take their pets with them. 

So whenever tragedy strikes, animal rescue groups are always the first to get my donations.
